YMCA SUMMER CAMP FAQ What s the difference between Day Camp and Specialty Camps Summer Day Camps are day long programs featuring traditional YMCA camp activities at our various YMCA locations They take place daily for the entire 12 week schedule and are led by our Summer Day Camp counselors Each YMCA Specialty Camp has a specific week long focus on a particular subject These camps go into greater depth allowing campers to fully explore the topic They last one week and are led by subject specific instructors How do I register for camp There are two ways to register First you can always register at the Welcome Center in any of our 9 YMCA of Greater Omaha family locations You can also print a registration form from our website metroymca org and bring the completed form to your local YMCA of Greater Omaha location When is the registration deadline Our camps are filled on a first come first served basis Some of our more popular camps fill up quickly so planning before school is out is a great idea Starting on February 4 you can register at any time prior to the start of the camp week Weekly registration will be open until the camp is full How do I pay for summer camp Our Summer Day Camp Specialty Camps and YMCA Camp Platte registrations require a 20 non refundable deposit per child per week to secure your spot This deposit is applied to the weekly registration rate We offer automatic payments which will be drafted the Friday prior to the camp start date Weekly fees are due the Friday prior to your child s camp week Payment is due in full before your child can attend camp What options are available for financial aid We want every child to have the opportunity to attend summer camp If you are in need of financial assistance request a financial aid application from any of our 9 YMCA of Greater Omaha locations Title 20 and Title 19 is not accepted at Armbrust YMCA Southwest YMCA YMCA Camp Platte or any Specialty Camps Scholarship is given after Title 20 and Title 19 options have been denied Complete the financial aid application and return to the Welcome Center with your Title 20 and Title 19 denial letter If you have more questions the Youth Family Director at each location will be available to assist What does my child need to bring to camp 1 Campers should wear comfortable and appropriate clothing for the camp s activities and the weather Tennis shoes water bottle sunscreen a backpack are required A sack lunch and snack may be needed depending on the camp ask upon registration Bring a swimsuit and towel on designated swim days Leave valuables and toys at home Most importantly have your child bring a positive attitude and can do spirit

YMCA CAMP PLATTE Give your kids an AMAZING OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE YMCA Camp Platte is held at Platte River State Park and offers eight one week sessions each summer You can send your camper for one week or any combination of weeks This camp provides different options for kids aged 6 15 years old Campers will participate in games sports crafts nature activities horseback riding spray park and more NATURE BUDDIES Ages 6 7 Children will learn about the world around them through games art and activities focusing on friendships and Mother Nature Campers will explore nature along the camp trails in the great outdoors enjoy crafts paddle boats archery spray park naturalist programs about reptiles and camping Member 215 week Non member 240 week RIDERS Ages 8 12 This camp is designed for children who have limited or no riding experience but a love of horses Campers will ride horses four times each week and learn saddling horse care and horsemanship Riders will also participate in camp activities such as shooting range hiking spray park naturalist program crafts and games Member 240 week Non member 265 week WILDERNESS PALS Ages 8 12 Children will explore the outdoor wilderness by hiking learning about animals and developing outdoor survival skills Campers will challenge themselves by gaining an understanding of teamwork build mutual trust and increase self esteem Pals will also participate in camp activities such as horseback riding shooting range hiking spray park naturalist program crafts and games Member 215 week Non member 240 week SHOOTING SPORTS CAMP Ages 10 15 This camp includes archery riflery pellet guns and tomahawks It starts with safety and basic techniques then progresses to advanced techniques shooting competitions Campers will also participate in camp activities such as horseback riding hiking spray park naturalist program arts crafts and games Member 225 week Non member 250 week 5

YOUTH VOLUNTEER CORPS Ages 11 18 YVC provides opportunities for youth age 11 18 to explore interests while giving back to the community Teens will develop new skills build on existing knowledge gain confidence and meet new people with Youth Volunteer Corps Volunteers can choose which projects to participate in throughout the summer based on their availability and interest School based clubs will be launching at select middle and highs schools in the fall City wide projects will be available all year long FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT TEEN PROGRAMS CONTACT YOUR LOCAL YMCA YMCA TEEN SUMMER PROGRAMS JR LEADERS CAMP Ages 12 16 Take on new challenges and opportunities in our summer leadership development program Junior Leaders will be paired with camp counselors as mentors and assist in the leadership of a group of summer day campers Junior Leaders will also have opportunities to shadow a variety of YMCA jobs plan and execute a special activity or event for Day Camp and learn about the business aspects of the YMCA All Junior Leaders will be required to attend a training session prior to attending summer day camp programs This training will prepare Junior Leaders for leading camp activities 14
